  • About the Instructor/Owner/Manager

When I was 9 years old my parents signed me up for horse camp and that first day was all it took. My assigned horse Shadow was an older flea bitten gray mare who stole my heart the first time I sat astride her. I was fascinated in all there was to learn in this broad new world from cleaning hooves and tack to riding and playing games with horses. After my glorious week of horse camp had ended I continued with riding lessons eventually learning how to canter, jump and attending my first real show.

Eventually I began taking lessons at a farm closer to home. It was here I leased my first horse Chance who is ironically identical to my "worth his weight in gold" school horse Cash. Soon my riding advanced and I was taking lessons on a particularly favorite Arabian mare named Chancy. Being like all other "barn bunnies" I would clean as many stalls, as many bridles, and sweep the isles however many times a day just so I could ride that horse. I think it was this little gray mare who gave me my passion in wanting to train horses.

Time went on and when I turned twelve I got my first horse Urban Delight (Felisha). I soon met Janice who began to teach me the art of dressage. Taking me under her wing Janice introduced me to her beautiful Lipizzaners whom were completely trained A - C from bowing and marching to piaffe and passage. I would help out in horse camps and grooming her horses in exchange for the knowledge that she gave me.

In 1996 my dad had built a perfect little barn on our property and we brought Felisha home to live with us and boarded one of Janice's Lippizzans Reba. I became a very responsible horse owner and gained most of my experiences in barn management. A couple years later we decided to breed Felisha to Janice's Lippizzan Stallion Favory II Materia I (better known as Merlin). In 1998 I witnessed my first foal birth in my own little barn in New Jersey. Felisha had a beautiful little filly we came to name Juniper Breeze. In the winters I would board June and Felisha at Reinbo Morgan. My first job was working as a stable hand, feeding, and doing stalls on the weekends, and in the summer, a camp instructor. I was soon exercising the horses on the farm and training an Arabian stallion that lived across the street from me.

In 2000 I graduated High School and attended Centenary College for a year studying equine science. I spent the next 3 years introducing many young riders to horses, and exercising and training many different horses. When finally I put my years of interest, experience, knowledge and love to use when we moved to Maryland and opened Secret Pride Stables LLC.

I look back at all these great "first" experiences then I look forward when teaching my students today and I smile in knowing this broad new world that awaits them.

Secret Pride Stables LLC came to be in March of 2004 when the property was purchased in hopes of making it a fun, educational, and successful horse business. We are happy to say that just 6 years later those dreams have come true. A property that had certainly seen its better days has now transpired to a place where horse lovers can take pride in being with, learning with, and caring for horses.

Among our 50 acres sat the "old barn" the "bird aviary" and rummages of wire once used as fencing, buried metal, and other broken and disheveled buildings and findings. With much work, thought, and willpower we set forth to clean, fix and build.

Just a few years later we have recreated this property into a horse farm with nice barns, safe fencing, and a terrific atmosphere. Now housing 22 stalls, several paddocks, a hot/cold water wash stall, and lots of room to ride it is easy to be at peace here. We have a large (100 x 200) outdoor arena complete with jumps, dressage markers, lights, and a viewer's area for visitors to sit and relax while watching others ride. We have replaced the collapsing in-ground pool with a round pen to suit your training needs. Tired of riding in the ring? No problem! Amongst our 50 acres are some wooded trails for you and your horse to enjoy. And to truly accommodate you, we have a "boarder's kitchen" with a bathroom in case you decide to spend the day with us!

Our first night in our new hundred year old farm house resting aloft broken pipes, and no heat was a night I will never forget. But we had dreams of growth and the determination to make this place what it is today, and the strive continues to make it what it will become tomorrow.

Come visit Secret Pride Stables LLC where we take pride in promoting a happy, fun, and safe family atmosphere.
